This Conversion utilises a Front 250W Brushless Motor Wheel with strengthened spokes and includes the following hardware: A 250W brushless Front Hub Integrated in wheel (maximum speed allowed by UK/EU regulation - 15.5mph) Fork compatibility: Minimum 100mm between fork drop-outs and need to be 10mm in size (as majority of forks).
Are you torn between choosing a powerful kit and a road-legal kit? Well, have both in one!
The UK/EU regulations dictate that a kit must not exceed the rated power of 250W to be road-legal. This is not great news for those who want to have the occasional fun off-road, yet still be able to ride sensibly and legally on-road. Common high-powered kit will come with legal implications.
The Restricted 250W/500W CycloTricity Conversion Kits we fit set out to resolve this very dilemma for its users in that their unique system allows the user to swap between two modes depending on whether you are using onroad or off-road on private land, allowing you to unlock the full power where it is safe and legal to do so. This dual-mode system is embedded in the LCD Dashboard. The full power of this kit can only be accessed using a special code that is only provided on the purchaser and rider signing a Disclaimer covering the derestriction Terms of Use.
Please note that this is not the same as a de-restriction switch which is questionable from a legal standpoint. This Conversion utilises a Rear restricted 250W/500W Brushless Motor Wheel with strengthened spokes and includes the following fitted hardware: A 250W/500W Brushless Rear Hub Motor Restricted to 250W and 25km/h by default for road-legal usage only. Fork compatibility: Minimum 135mm between fork drop-outs and need to be 10mm in size (as majority rear forks). Note: This Motor is only compatible with threaded Freewheel Cogs, not Cassettes
The Cyclotricity Restricted 250W/500W Crank Motor we fit offers a good combination of strong torque, high-efficiency with low power consumption and noise output. The mid drive motor transfers the power through the bike's gears, meaning the motor can operate within its optimum RPM range which is ideal for hill climbing.
This unique 250/500W system allows you to have a higher power option of up to 96 Nm of torque where it is safe and legal to do so while still maintaining the ability to use the low-power option on the road for maximum efficiency. The following Hardware is provided: Mid Drive Brushless Motor (with integrated controller). Restricted to 250W by default as a road legal kit.
The 500W mode provides a powerful 96Nm of torque up to maximum speed of 32km/h once de-restricted. (However, this Conversion is only available on the purchaser and rider signing a Disclaimer covering the de-restriction Terms of Use).
Considerations prior to purchasing this mid-drive conversion include: The bottom bracket of your bike will need to be between 68-73mm wide in order to work with this mid-drive conversion.
A spacer may need to be fitted for the motor. The chain ring is 42 tooth, so the chainline will need to be fairly standard and the chain may need to be lengthened or shortened depending on your bike configuration.
You can only use this conversion with as a 1 ring crank setup meaning 3 front rings will need replacing. With the electric motor installed, you will not need the front gears.
The 250W Conversions include spoke strengthened Front Wheels and either Frame or Rear Pannier mounted Battery. The Restricted 250W/500W Conversions include spoke strengthened Rear wheels and only available with Frame Battery.
